Alabama Population

The population of Alabama is concentrated in the Greater Birmingham area otherwise known as The Birmingham-Hoover-Cullman Combined Statistical Area. This metropolitan area consists of the cities of Birmingham, Hoover and Cullman where one fourth of the state’s population is located. The state capital, Montgomery, the second most populated metropolitan area in he state, has seen modest growth in recent years as compared to the 4.47 per cent increase in the Birmingham-Hoover-Cullman area and the 6.12 per cent increase in the Mobile-Daphne-Fairhope metropolitan areas. These favorable statistics indicate positive growth for the future of Alabama real estate.

Alabama Economy

As its nickname, "The Cotton State" belies, Alabama has a strong agricultural economy including the growth of cotton, peanuts, corn, sorghum, soybeans and peaches. Alabama is also a growing industrial and technology center with the production of goods in the iron, steel, plastic and apparel industries. Aerospace and electronic products are also important to Alabama which boasts the NASA George C. Marshall Space Flight Center and the U.S. Army Missile Command. As part of the largest industrial growth corridor in the nation, Alabama touts automobile production second only to Detroit in the United States.

Alabama Tourism and Recreation

Alabama has an important place in American history and is home to Alabama tourist attractions including the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, the USS Alabama, the U.S. Space and Rocket Center. Annual events include Alabama Jubilee Hot Air Balloon Classic, Mardi Gras in Mobile, Spirit of America Festival, Alabama Sports Festival and Bayfest, Mobile’s music festival. Racing enthusiasts flock to Talladega Superspeedway and the International Motorsports Hall of Fame and Museum. Professional sports teams are also important Alabama attractions and include the Birmingham Barons, Huntsville Stars, Mobile BayBears and Montgomery Biscuits, Birmingham Magicians and the Southern Alabama Bounce.
