Indiana Population

Indiana ranks number 14 in population in the U.S. and has seen a 3.8 pr cent population increase over the last few years. Indiana’s largest cities are Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, Evansville, South Bend, Gary, Hammond, Bloomington, Muncie, Anderson and Terre Haute. This is important for those interested in buying Indiana real estate especially in the quickly growing areas of Indianapolis, the capital city, and its surrounding counties: Hamilton, Hendricks, Hancock and Johnson. The other rapidly growing county is Dearborn County located in the southern part of the state near the Cincinnati metropolitan area.

Indiana Economy

Indiana’s economy is a substantial mix of industrial and agricultural exports. Industrial products include steel, transportation equipment, petroleum and coal, pharmaceutical, medical devices, factory machinery and chemical products. The state’s highest agricultural initiatives include corn, hogs, cattle, soybeans, dairy products and eggs. Indiana is home to Fortune 500 companies such as Eli Lilly, Mead Johnson Nutritionals, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Bayer and Zimmer Medical Devices.

Indiana Tourism and Recreation

Indiana has a proud sporting heritage particularly in basketball and auto racing. The first high school basketball game was played in Indiana and the sport has taken on a statewide zeal at all levels of play. Auto racing fans flock each Memorial Day to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to watch the annual Indianapolis 500 race. The state is also home to professional athletic teams including the Indianapolis Colts NFL football team and the Indiana Pacers NBA basketball team. For those who enjoy outdoor activities, Indiana is a haven of camping, hiking, fishing, golfing and other pursuits.
