About Louisiana Real Estate

Buying Louisiana Real Estate

If considering a move to Louisiana, you should take some time to review the following information on demographics, crime statistics, population, schools, and other important facts about Louisiana real estate.

Louisiana Population

Prior to the event of Hurricane Katrina in September of 2005, Louisiana was experiencing a 1.2 per cent population growth. In the aftermath of the hurricane, Louisiana’s population has experienced a decrease of 4.1 per cent in its population due largely in part to residents migrating to other neighboring states in an attempt to quickly reestablish and rebuild lives. This leaves much opportunity for those interested in buying Louisiana real estate as the opportunities for growth are tremendous especially in the city of New Orleans and others along the coast.

Louisiana Economy

Louisiana has a largely agricultural and seaport economy. The Port of South Louisiana located between the cities of Baton Rouge and New Orleans is the fourth largest shipping port in the world. Agricultural products include seafood, soybeans, sugarcane, cattle, cotton, poultry, dairy products, rice and eggs. Some industrial exports include food processing, paper products, petroleum and coal, transportation equipment and chemical products. Tourism has always been a boon to Louisiana’s economy and it is steadily increasing as the hurricane-stricken area along the coast continues to reemerge.

Louisiana Tourism and Recreation

When you mention Louisiana, thoughts normally go to the highly popular city of New Orleans with its jazz, food and Mardi Gras celebrations. These are not-to-be missed attributes but the state has many more attractions. In nearby Cajun country, sample the local delicacy of crawfish etouffee, move to zydeco music and take a swamp tour. You won’t want to miss the tours of plantation homes reckoning back to a grand antebellum period in the Southeastern part of the state. And when you arrive at the center of the state, you’ll find yourself at the 800,000 acre Kisatchie National Forest and unspoiled bayous. The northern part of the state is an outdoor enthusiast’s paradise.

Louisiana is a land of much history and an emerging future which make it perfect for considering buying Louisiana real estate.
