About Minnesota Real Estate

Buying Minnesota Real Estate

if considering a move to Minnesota, review the information before buying Minnesota real estate.

Minnesota Population

The estimated 2006 population of Minnesota is 5,167,101, reflecting a jump of approximately 5.03% since the 2000 census. This is reflected in the Minnesota real estate statistics as well. In 2005, there were 2,252,022 housing units, an increase of 9.01% from 2000. Roughly 60% of all Minnesotans live in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan areas. Minneapolis is the state’s largest city, and St. Paul is its capital.

Minnesota Economy

Agriculture and mining are important sectors of the Minnesota economy. Minnesota is the country’s leading producer of sugar beets, sweet corn, green peas for processing and farm-raised turkeys. Minnesota also produces much iron ore, and mining led to the development of the port of Duluth. The retail sector has some notable history in Minnesota. The nation’s first indoor shopping mall was Edina’s Southdale Center, and its largest, The Mall of America, is in Bloomington, a Minneapolis suburb. Some national retailers have their headquarters here, including Target and Best Buy. Other large companies in Minnesota include General Mills, 3M, and UnitedHealthGroup.

Minnesota Tourism and Recreation

Major sports are represented in Minnesota. The Minnesota Vikings (NFL), Minnesota Twins (MLB-AL), Minnesota Timberwolves (NBA) and the Minnesota Wild (NHL) entertain fans in the greater Minneapolis area. Famous musicians from many genres hail from Minnesota, including Prince, Bob Dylan, Eddie Cochran, the Andrews Sisters, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, and the rock band Soul Asylum. Minnesotans enjoy a lot of outdoor activity. Because there are so many lakes, in warmer weather, many outdoor activities are in or on the water. Boating, fishing, and canoeing are very popular. Winter does not stop activity – ice fishing is very popular, as is ice hockey, curling, skating, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling.

Minnesota is a place where residents enjoy outdoor activity year-round, especially if you like being in or on water. The Minneapolis-St. Paul area is the cultural center of the upper Midwest. If these attributes sound appealing to you, then considering buying Minnesota real estate may be the right move for you.
