If considering a move to Mississippi, you should take some time to review the following information on demographics, crime statistics, population, schools, and other important facts about Mississippi real estate.

Mississippi Population

The state of Mississippi has witnessed a 2.7 per cent population increase over the last few years. Mississippi is a large state and offers plenty of opportunity for those looking to buy Mississippi real estate. Much of the state is forested and offers rural housing environments but there are also metropolitan areas for those wishing for an urban lifestyle. Some of the largest cities include, Jackson, the state capital, Gulfport, Biloxi, Hattiesburg, Greenville, Meridian, Tupelo, Southaven, Vicksburg and Pascagoula.

Mississippi Economy

Mississippi’s economy has taken a blow in recent years due to the impact of the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The state is rebuilding that area and is revamping its casino and gambling institutions which prove to be large economic boons to the state. Mississippi has a more agricultural than industrial economy and some of its products include cotton, catfish, soybeans, rice, dairy products, poultry and cattle. Manufactured products include furniture and other wood products, food processing, apparel, transportation equipment and electrical machinery.

Mississippi Tourism and Recreation

Mississippi’s music heritage is evident everywhere you travel in the state. The Mississippi Blues Trail, the Delta Blues Museum and Elvis Presley’s home in Tupelo are just a few notable sites. The mighty Mississippi River which flows along the western edge of the state is a source of commerce as well as recreational activities. Natural scenery abounds and some is preserved by the National Park Service including Brices Cross Roads National Battlefield Site, Gulf Islands National Seashore, Natchez National Historical Park, Tupelo National Battlefield, Vicksburg National Cemetery and the Vicksburg National Military Park.

Mississippi bids "The South’s Warmest Welcome" and offers history, breathtaking natural landscapes and a relaxed way of life to those considering buying Mississippi real estate.
