Buying Montana Real Estate
If considering a move to Montana, you should take some time to review the following information on demographics, crime statistics, population, schools, and other important facts about Montana real estate.
Montana Population
Despite being the fourth largest state by area, it’s the 44th largest state by population, giving it the third lowest population density in the United States. The estimated 2006 population of Montana is 944,632, reflecting a jump of approximately 4.70% since the 2000 census. This is reflected in the Montana real estate statistics as well. In 2005, there were 428,357 housing units, an increase of 3.81% from 2000.
Montana Economy
Montana’s largest economic sectors are agriculture and lumber and mineral extraction. Tourism also plays a key part in the Montana economy. Roughly split into east and west by the Continental Divide, the mountainous western half, part of the Rocky Mountains, contrasts with the open prairies, part of the Great Plains, of the eastern half.
Montana Tourism and Recreation
Also known as Big Sky Country, outdoor living is a key recreational activity. Montana contains Glacier National Park and part of Yellowstone National Park. Montana is also home to the Little Bighorn National Monument (Custer’s Last Stand). Fishing, hiking, biking and following the Dinosaur Trail are popular activities. There have been several amazing dinosaur discoveries in Montana. Following the Lewis and Clark Historical Trail is also a great option.
Montana is a beautiful state that combines mountain ranges, open prairies, and beautiful national parks. If these attributes sound appealing to you, then considering buying Montana real estate may be the right move for you.
