Tennessee Population

The state of Tennessee has experienced a healthy 6.1 per cent increase in its population over the last few years. Anyone interested in buying Tennessee real estate has many choices both rural and urban. The state has many geographical terrains too from the Mississippi Delta area on the west all the way to the Great Smoky Mountains on the eastern side of the state. Those interested in urban and metropolitan areas gravitate toward the largest cities including Nashville, the capital, Memphis, Knoxville, Chattanooga, Clarksville, Murfreesboro, Jackson, Johnson City, Kingsport and Franklin.

Tennessee Economy

The rural landscape of Tennessee lends itself to agricultural production which is the basis for Tennessee’s economy. Some of the products exported include tobacco, cotton, soybeans, hogs, dairy products and livestock products. Industrial segments include electrical power, textiles, cotton and cattle. Several Fortune 500 companies are headquartered in Tennessee including Caremark Rx, FedEx, HCA, International Paper, Eastman Chemical, Unum Group, Dollar General, AutoZone, ServiceMaster and Community Health Systems.

Tennessee Tourism and Recreation

Tennessee is an outdoor enthusiast’s delight with plenty of areas to hike, fish, camp, boat and hunt. Some of Tennessee’s national parks and sites include the Appalachian National Scenic Trail, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Shiloh National Military Park, Trail of Tears National Historic Trail, the Natchez Trace Parkway and the Andrew Johnson National Historic Site. Professional sports are well represented in Tennessee by the Memphis Grizzlies NBA team, the Tennessee Titans NFL team and the Nashville Predators NHL team. Motor sports are also popular in Tennessee and each year thousands of fans flock to the Bristol Motor Speedway for NASCAR Nextel Cup races.
