Texas Population
Texas is the second largest state in the US, in both area and population. The estimated 2006 population of Texas is 23,507,783, reflecting a jump of approximately 12.74% since the 2000 census. This is reflected in the Texas real estate statistics as well. In 2005, there were 9,026,011 housing units, an increase of 10.65% from 2000. Roughly 50% of all Texans live in either the Dallas-Fort Worth or Houston metropolitan areas. Houston is the state’s largest city, and Austin is its capital.
Texas Economy
Texas leads the nation in number of beef, which usually exceed 16 million head. Cotton is the leading crop and the state's second-most-valuable farm product. Texas also leads in national production of grain sorghum, watermelons, cabbages, and spinach. Wheat, corn, and other grains are also important. After World War II, Texas became increasingly industrialized. Its economy today relies largely on information technology, oil and natural gas, fuel processing, electric power, agriculture, and manufacturing.
Houston is home to NASA’s Mission Control Center. Laredo is home to the US’s largest inland port. Austin is known as the Live Music Capital of the World. Dallas is a very popular tourist destination within Texas. Texas has the second Fortune 500 company headquarters of any state, and is home to American Airlines, Dell, Kimberly-Clark, AT&T, and many oil companies, such as Exxon Mobil and Marathon Oil.
Texas Tourism and Recreation
Lots of US history has taken place in Texas. San Antonio has the Alamo and the famous River Walk District. San Jacinto Battleground State Historical Park is in Houston. This state park commemorates the decisive 1836 battle between Sam Houston's army and the Mexican army in which Texas gained independence. Dallas is home to Dealey Plaza, where President Kennedy was assassinated, one of the top tourist attractions in the state.
The original Six Flags and Hurricane Harbor offers family fun in Arlington, TX. Sea World is in San Antonio, TX for more theme park activities.
Texas is a beautiful state that combines history, a variety of climates, good employment and low housing costs. If these attributes sound appealing to you, then considering buying Texas real estate may be the right move for you.
