Washington Population
The population of Washington is largely concentrated in the Western Corridor, located between the Pacific Coast and the Cascade ranges. This wide, north-south strip of land contains some of Washington’s most populous cities. The largest city in the Western Corridor is Seattle, WA. Other leading cities include Tacoma, WA, Spokane, WA, Vancouver, WA, and Bellevue, WA. Approximately half of Washington’s population is located in this region.
The estimated 2006 population of Washington is 6,395,798, reflecting a jump of approximately 500,000 since the 2000 census. Clearly Washington has grown during this decade. This is reflected in the Washington real estate statistics as well. In 2005, there were 2,651,645 housing units, an increase of 191,404 from 2000.
Washington Economy
The economy of Washington is diverse. The large sectors are services, financial institutions, manufacturing (especially aerospace equipment, shipbuilding, food processing, and wood products), agriculture, lumbering, and tourism. Washington Mutual, Microsoft, Nordstrom, Amazon.com, Starbucks, Costco Wholesale Club and Weyerhaeuser all have their corporate headquarters in Washington.
Washington Tourism and Recreation
Washington tourist attractions, such as Pike’s Peak Market, outstanding cafes, Mt. Ranier, and the Space Needle can all be found in and around Seattle, WA.
If you enjoy playing outdoors, Washington offers many options. Choices include biking on miles of trails, boating on a lake, fishing in a stream, exploring glaciers, rainforests and beaches, to sitting around a campfire at a Washington campground. There are 10 state parks within 15 miles of Seattle, WA for you to explore and enjoy.
