West Virginia Population

The state of West Virginia has experienced just a 0.5 per cent increase in population over the last few years. West Virginia Economy

West Virginia has a long history of coal mining and logging as big sectors in its economy and has recently added oil drilling as another natural resource which will factor into the economy. Although the mountains which essentially cover the state prohibit large expanses of farms, agriculture does play an important role in West Virginia’s economy. Some of the products exported include apples, poultry, cattle and dairy products. West Virginia is not a big industrial state but does produce several products based on natural resources including primary metals, clay, stone, glass and chemical products. There is one Fortune 500 company headquartered in West Virginia: Wheeling Pittsburgh. Tourism and the film industry contribute annually to West Virginia’s economy overall.

The beauty of West Virginia’s landscape draws thousands of people each year who indulge in outdoor activities such as whitewater rafting, skiing, camping, hiking, rock climbing, fishing and hunting. West Virginia also has many historical sites and venues including the Appalachian National Scenic Trail, Harpers Ferry National Historic Park, The Greenbrier Hotel and Resort and the National Radio Astronomy Observatory.
