With a little planning and elbow grease, the garage can be one of the tidiest areas of the home. If you need some help deciding where to start with your garage organizing, please check out a previous article I wrote, “Garage Organizing Systems – How to Get Your Car in the Garage.” If you have already purged, categorized, and organized your belongings, then you are ready for garage storage ideas. I have found some amazing products that I am sure will inspire you to complete your garage organization project.
Cabinets
One of the best ways to transform your garage is to install cabinets. While there are companies that will custom design garage cabinetry, you can save a lot of money by doing it yourself. Your local home improvement store will likely carry some nice options, but if you can’t find what you are looking for in-store, there are plenty of great cabinets available online.
Tool Pegboards
Most garages serve as a storage place for tools and hardware. A pegboard is an amazing garage storage product because it gives so much more than it takes. The wall space it requires is minimal, yet it can hold all your loose tools and products. Pegboards come in a variety of sizes and materials that allow you to personalize you garage storage space.
Racks
Garage storage racks are another way to maximize space, especially if you have a narrow garage and cabinets are not really an option. There are many online options for ordering racks to install on your own. You can also find storage racks at most home improvement stores.
- Over the door – Garage storage racks are perfect for storing items that are not used as often, such as seasonal décor and clothing. They are very durable and can be modified to fit in almost any garage.
- Motorized – Garage storage is ideal for bikes and golf clubs that otherwise take up square footage on the garage floor. The hoist in the picture below can handle 220 pounds! With the push of a button you can retrieve your equipment without having to pull out the ladder and put yourself in harm’s way.
Shelves
For quick and easy garage storage, simply add open shelving to your space.
- Bookshelves - These can be secured to your garage wall to serve as storage for tools and hardware. Drilling holes in one of the shelves provides the perfect place for screwdrivers.
- Open shelves - These can be hung higher up to store bins and boxes that would otherwise take up space on the floor or workbench.
Online Garage Storage Design
There are so many options when it comes to designing your garage. Thankfully there are companies with websites that can help you virtually design your storage space before you purchase a single product. You can design a garage like the one pictured below for a fraction of the cost of having it custom-designed. While the online companies do have amazing products and will ship them almost anywhere, check out your local home improvement store before you pay for shipping and handling.
This summer you can finally have the garage of your dreams by adding a few products that will allow you to utilize your space more efficiently. Good luck and happy organizing!
Warmly,
