Atlanta is a leading center for tourism, government, communications and transportation. Georgia Tourism and Recreation
Much of Georgia’s tourism is based on historical sites and events dating back to pre-Colonial days up to the days of the Civil War. Antebellum sites and Civil War battlefields and monuments dot the landscape of this expansive state. The metropolitan areas are alive with cultural events including symphonies, operas, theaters, museums, botanical gardens and nightlife entertainment. Georgia is proud of its sports and boasts many major league teams including the Atlanta Braves, the Atlanta Falcons, the Atlanta Hawks and the Atlanta Thrashers. Georgia is crisscrossed by a network of rivers, mountains and state parks sure to please even the most avid outdoors enthusiast.
