if considering a move to Utah, review the information before buying Utah real estate.
Utah Population
The capital city of Utah is also its biggest, Salt Lake City. Most of Utah’s population lives in an area known as the Wasatch Front, a series of valleys and basins. The major cities of Ogden, Salt Lake City, Layton, West Valley City, Sandy, West Jordan, Orem, and Provo are located within this region, which stretches approximately from Brigham City at the north end to Nephi at the south end. Approximately 75% of the population of the state lies in this corridor. Utah’s other populous region is known as “Dixie”, and it’s in Southwestern Utah. It’s named “Dixie” because early settlers were able to grow some cotton there.
The estimated 2006 population of Utah is 2,550,063, reflecting a jump of approximately 14.19% since the 2000 census. This makes Utah one of the fastest growing states in the US. This is reflected in the Utah real estate statistics as well. In 2005, there were 873,097 housing units, an increase of 13.60% from 2000.
Utah Economy
Top industries in Utah's economy include mining, cattle ranching, salt production, tourism and government services. In Southern Utah, tourism is a big industry, due in part to the presence of Utah's five national parks (Arches, Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands, Capital Reef and Zion). Ski resorts are another important economic driver for Utah. Popular resorts are near Salt Lake City, Park City, Ogden, Provo and Cedar City.
Utah Tourism and Recreation
Aside from hiking, biking, and skiing in Utah's beautiful parks and resorts, Utah is the smallest state with a National Basketball Association team, the Utah Jazz, which plays in Salt Lake City.
Utah is a beautiful state that combines mountain ranges, clear lakes and fantastic skiing. If these attributes sound appealing to you, then considering buying Utah real estate may be the right move for you.
