Allendale is a very good neighborhood to buy a home in for those who prefer a relaxed environment. There are a few green spaces close by for residents to check out, like Gwynns Falls Park, which makes them very easy to get to. This neighborhood is reasonably quiet overall, as there isn't a lot of street noise or city clamor.

The predominance of townhouses in the housing stock of Allendale is an important part of its character. This neighborhood also has a good selection of unit sizes; it is quite easy to find homes ranging from lofts to four or more bedrooms. About 60% of the properties in the neighborhood are occupied by renters whereas the rest are occupied by owners. A majority of the housing growth in this area occurred prior to the 1960s.

It is usually feasible for house buyers in this part of Baltimore to do their groceries on foot. Furthermore, a restaurant is often just around the corner, for example along Allendale Street. Regarding education, both primary and secondary schools are easy to access on foot from most houses for sale in Allendale.

Allendale is not particularly cycling-friendly because cyclists encounter a considerable amount of hills. Thankfully, this part of Baltimore features a very good cycling infrastructure.
