Arlingwood is a good neighborhood to buy a home in for those who prefer a calm ambience. This part of the city is reasonably quiet, as the streets tend to be quite peaceful - although there are still several louder areas, especially near State Highway 9A. Lastly, green spaces are very well-spread out and there are a few of them nearby for residents to discover, which results in them being easy to get to from a lot of locations in the neighborhood.

Arlingwood experienced its most significant housing boom between 1960 and 1980, so most of the available housing stock is from this era. In this area, many of the dwellings are single detached homes, whereas the rest are mainly large apartment buildings and small apartment buildings. Roughly two thirds of the population of this neighborhood own their home and one third are renters. This neighborhood has a good variety of unit sizes, ranging from lofts to four or more bedrooms.

In contrast, traveling by public transit is very difficult in this part of Jacksonville. Nevertheless, the neighborhood is linked by a few bus lines, and bus stops are commonly close by. There aren't many pedestrians out on the streets of Arlingwood, even though running common errands is convenient.
