About 30 minutes outside of Phoenix, you’ll find the suburb of Gilbert, Arizona. Home to just under 240,000 people, Gilbert is a safe, family friendly place where neighbors greet you with smiles.

Eighty percent of the population is married and 78 percent are homeowners. In general, the residents of Gilbert are well-educated and successful; 51 percent of the population is college educated and the median household income is $84,502. This is plenty of money to keep you afloat in Gilbert, where the median sales price of homes is a pretty run-of-the-mill $300,000 and median rent is $1,495 a month.

Gilbert has a mix of luxury communities and more modest suburban neighborhoods. You can even have a waterfront home in the middle of the desert here, thanks to some manmade lakes; popular lake communities include Val Vista Lakes and The Islands/Neely Ranch.

So what’s there to do in Gilbert? The city takes a lot of pride in its history and heritage, and that's celebrated during Gilbert Days in November, which feature a rodeo, parade, festival and races.

As with all of Arizona, the weather here is hot and dry, so residents can enjoy the great outdoors all year round. There are five golf courses, numerous parks and The Riparian at Water Ranch, which features hiking and equestrian trails. Even the shopping is done outdoors at SanTan Village, an open-air shopping center. Historic Downtown Gilbert is where you’ll find a little bit of nightlife and a pretty decent food scene. In fact, Gilbert has been featured on the Food Network. Take, for example, Sal’s Gilbert Pizza, a New York-style pizza joint featured on “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.”
