Castle Rouge is a good neighborhood to buy a house in for those who prefer a relaxed environment. This part of Detroit is quiet, as there isn't a lot of street noise or city clamor - however noise can be bothersome around the railway line or Edward J Jeffries Freeway. Finally, green spaces, like Outer Drive Fullerton Park, are very well-distributed and there are a few of them nearby for residents to relax in, which makes it very easy to access them from numerous locations within this neighborhood.

In Castle Rouge, roughly three quarters of the dwellings are single detached homes, and large apartment buildings are also present in the housing stock. This part of Detroit has a choice of housing sizes, ranging from lofts to four or more bedrooms. The split between renters and home owners is about even. A majority of the housing growth in this neighborhood took place pre-1960.

It is a short walk to get to primary schools from most homes for sale in Castle Rouge. However, there are no high schools in this neighborhood. When it comes to eating, home buyers in Castle Rouge usually have to use a car to do groceries. Nonetheless, pharmacies are generally convenient to get to on foot and sell some basic food items.

Castle Rouge is an extraordinarily good part of Detroit for driving. Finding a place to park is generally easy, and the majority of properties for sale are a very short car ride from the nearest highway, such as Edward J Jeffries Freeway. In contrast, this neighborhood is not very transit friendly. Nonetheless, the neighborhood is connected by a few bus lines, and most houses are very close to a bus stop. Castle Rouge is not very convenient for walking as few daily errands can be run without needing to use a car.
