Champaign is reasonably quiet, as there tend to be low levels of noise from traffic - although that is not the case around Interstate 72, Interstate 57, the airport (University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign-Willard Airport) or one of the railway lines.
In Champaign, about half of the dwellings are single detached homes, while large apartment buildings and small apartment buildings are the main alternatives in the housing stock. This city has a good variety of housing size options, ranging from lofts to four or more bedrooms. The split between renters and home owners is about even. However, getting around by transit can be challenging in Champaign by reason of the service's low frequency. Nonetheless, the city is served by approximately 20 bus lines, and the nearest bus stop is generally relatively close by. Traveling on foot is not very feasible for residents in Champaign because many daily needs are inconvenient to carry out without the use of a vehicle.
