Cragin, Chicago

The neighborhood of Cragin can be found in the city of Chicago, Illinois.

Cragin is a "jack-of-all-trades" when it comes to the feel of this part of the city. In general, this part of Chicago has many areas to discover. Even though the nightlife is quiet, there are a very large number of people around most of the time. Cragin is quiet, as the streets are peaceful - although that is not the case near the railway line. Getting to green spaces in the neighborhood, including Blackhawk Park, is easy since there are a few of them nearby for residents to discover.

Small apartment buildings are the predominant housing type, representing roughly 30% of the dwellings in Cragin, whereas the remainder are mainly duplexes and single detached homes. This part of Chicago also has a good variety of housing sizes - properties range from lofts to four or more bedrooms. There are equal parts renters and owners living in this area. A majority of the housing growth in this neighborhood happened pre-1960.

A general and a specialty grocery store is always only a very short walk away in Cragin. Furthermore, Cragin is a fairly good place in which to eat out or go to a cafe. It is also easy to access a selection of clothing stores on foot, for example on School Street. As far as education is concerned, it is a very short walk to get to both primary and secondary schools from most homes for sale in Cragin. In addition to public schools, there are private elementary and high schools.

Cragin is a very good area with regards to traveling without a car. Cragin is transit friendly as a result of Grand/Cicero Station on the Milwaukee District / West Line, and a few nearby bus lines. On the other hand, a car is a sometimes poor transportation option in this area since almost none of the street network is made for driving, and nearby highways are not very easy to access from any home in this part of Chicago. Cragin will appeal to physically active people because it is especially suitable for traveling on foot; all common errands can be run on foot, and a variety of businesses are close by.
