Independence Plaza offers a relaxed environment and will appeal to home buyers who enjoy spending time outdoors. There are a few public green spaces close by for residents to check out, making them very easy to reach. This neighborhood is also reasonably quiet, as the streets tend to be calm - however noise can be an issue around US Highway 40 or Interstate 70.

Independence Plaza experienced its most significant housing boom prior to the 1960s, so most of the available properties are from this era. Single detached homes are the predominant housing type, representing around 40% of the dwellings in this neighborhood, while the remainder are mainly large apartment buildings and small apartment buildings. About three quarters of the properties in the neighborhood are occupied by renters whereas the rest are occupied by owners. This area has a good selection of unit sizes, ranging from lofts to four or more bedrooms.

It is very easy to access the closest grocery store on foot from most properties for sale in Independence Plaza. Furthermore, a restaurant is commonly just around the corner. Independence Plaza is reasonably suitable for traveling on foot; most daily needs are easy to meet without the use of a car. The public transit network in Independence Plaza is not especially practical. On the other hand, this part of Kansas City is very car friendly. Many houses for sale are a very short drive from the nearest highway, such as Interstate 70, and it is very convenient to come across a place to park.
