The character of Liliha-Kapalama is exemplified by its calm environment. Parks are very well-distributed and there are a few of them nearby for residents to explore, making it easy to access them from most locations within the neighborhood. This part of Honolulu is quiet overall, as there are usually low levels of noise from traffic - although there are still several noisier sections, especially close to Interstate H-1 or Lunalilo Freeway.

Single detached homes are the most common housing type, representing about 55% of the dwellings in Liliha-Kapalama, whereas the remainder are mainly large apartment buildings and townhouses. This part of Honolulu has a good choice of housing sizes, ranging from lofts to four or more bedrooms. In contrast, commuting by transit can be at times challenging in Liliha-Kapalama by reason of the low service level. Thankfully, there are about 10 bus lines crossing the neighborhood, and bus stops are not very far from most homes.
