Little Calumet River offers an extensive selection of green spaces to enjoy. There are a few public green spaces close by for residents to unwind in, like Beaubien Woods Forest Preserve, which results in them being easy to reach from the majority of locations in the neighborhood. Lastly, this area remains relatively serene, due to the presence of very few people out and about on the streets.

Townhouses are the predominant housing type, representing roughly one third of buildings in Little Calumet River, whereas the remainder are mainly small apartment buildings and single detached homes. This part of the city has a selection of housing sizes, ranging from lofts to four or more bedrooms. Roughly three quarters of the dwellings in the neighborhood are occupied by renters whereas the rest are occupied by owners. A majority of the housing growth in this neighborhood occurred pre-1960.

There are only a few high schools in Little Calumet River and therefore they can be a long walk away. Likewise, this area does not have any primary schools.
