Matthews Beach is a very good neighborhood to buy a house in for those who prefer a relaxed ambience. The greenery in this part of Seattle is very prominent; it is very easy to reach green spaces from the majority of locations within the neighborhood, since there are a few of them nearby for residents to discover, such as Warren G. Magnuson Park and Matthews Beach Park. Residents will also find that numerous tree-lined streets are present. This neighborhood is also very good for those who need quiet surroundings, as there are usually low levels of noise from traffic.

Most homes in Matthews Beach were built before the 1960s, during its main housing boom. The housing stock of this area is composed predominantly of single detached homes and townhouses. Roughly 80% of the population of this neighborhood own their home whereas renters make up the remainder. This part of the city also has quite a good variety of housing sizes - it is quite easy to find properties ranging from lofts to four or more bedrooms.

It is occasionally possible for property owners in Matthews Beach to purchase their groceries by walking. In terms of education, it is a rather short walk to access both primary and secondary schools from most houses for sale in this part of the city.
