Memphis, TN

Memphis is probably best known for barbeque, blues and the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll himself, Elvis Presley, but that’s just a smidgen of what the city has to offer newcomers. One of the largest cities in Tennessee, Memphis’ economic success and healthy job market is boosted by the presence of some pretty major contributors, including FedEx, AutoZone, Duck’s Unlimited and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The area is also extremely affordable, with Memphis homes for sale currently listed at a median price of $89,900. Some of the cities most popular neighborhoods include Raleigh, Midtown and Downtown Memphis.

Memphis is truly a foodie town. The city boasts an impressive spread of dining options, from soul food to fine dining. And then there are the city’s 100 barbecue joints serving up the city’s signature dish: dry rub ribs. Memphis has a restaurant (or 20) to whet just about any palate.

Nature-lovers will surely appreciate any of the 166 parks and 110 playgrounds sprinkled around the city, as well as the plethora of bike and walking trails. The Mississippi River is also a popular place to kayak or enjoy a guided tour aboard a paddle-wheel riverboat.

Of course, the music scene is hard to miss. Known as the Birthplace of Rock ‘n’ Roll and the Home of the Blues, Memphis offers music lovers a wide array of sites to see, including the Blues Music Hall of Fame, Graceland, Memphis Music Hall of Fame and the world-famous Beale Street Historic District. Performance art, dance and classical music can be enjoyed at the Orpheum Theatre, Circuit Playhouse and Playhouse on the Square.

Sports enthusiasts can also get their fix by way of the city’s professional athletics teams, like the Grizzlies (basketball), Redbirds (baseball), and a soon-to-launch United Premiere Soccer League team.
