Milwaukee, WI

Experience the Midwest at its finest in the bustling city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Many residents are born and raised in Milwaukee or the surrounding area, so it’s a homey city filled with friendly folk who love their beer, their sports and their hometown brands, like Miller Brewing, Pabst Blue Ribbon and Harley Davidson.

Being a young city with a median age of just 32, a little more than half of Milwaukee’s residents are renters. But whether you want to rent or buy and depending on what you’re into, you’ll want to check out the unique variety of neighborhoods. The heart of the scene, the historic Third Ward is home to restaurants, spas, theaters, galleries and boutiques – all in a warehouse setting. Here, you’ll find the Third Ward Riverwalk and the Milwaukee Public Market. East Side Milwaukee, bordered by the Milwaukee River and Lake Michigan, is another good spot; the Lower East Side features newer apartment buildings, if you’re looking for a home with a modern feel and great amenities. Wauwatosa is ideal for newlyweds and young families, as it’s close to the city but has a more suburban feel.

It gets cold and snowy in Milwaukee, so the sometimes brutal wintertime is best spent indoors (unless you’re ice skating or sledding in one of the city's parks). Beer lovers will adore this city. Take a tour of the Miller Brewing Company and check out the Pabst Brewery Complex, the former brewery of the Pabst Brewing Company. You can also visit the grand Pabst Mansion, former home of one of the famous beer baron.

And be sure to check out the bar scene at Brady Street and Water Street at night. Foodies should definitely make a stop at the Milwaukee Public Market, an eclectic food market featuring Wisconsin classics ꟷ this is where you’ll want to stop for that classic Wisconsin cheese. Cheese enthusiasts can also check out Clock Shadow Creamery, the first urban cheese factory in Wisconsin. You can also get a great sit-down meal in Third Ward and the neighborhoods of East Town, Bay View and Walker’s Point.

If you like motorcycles, you’ll be happy to know Milwaukee is home to the Harley-Davidson Museum. Sports fans can grab tickets to a Bucks basketball game at BMO Harris Bradley Center or a Brewers baseball game at Miller Park.

In the summer, Milwaukee seems more coastal community than urban center (don’t forget Lake Michigan is so big it may as well be the ocean). Residents enjoy kayaking, sailing, fishing, jet skiing and lounging at Lake Park along the shoreline.
