Near Northeast offers a relaxed atmosphere and will appeal to those who enjoy spending time in green spaces. This area is reasonably quiet overall, as noise from the streets and other parts of the city is rarely an issue - although that is not the case closer to Interstate 690 or Interstate 81. Lastly, green spaces, including Rose Hill and Lincoln Park, are especially well-spread out and there are a few of them close by for residents to discover, making them easy to reach from many locations in this neighborhood.

Near Northeast experienced its biggest housing boom prior to the 1960s, so most of the available housing is from this time period. Large apartment buildings are the most common housing type, representing around 45% of the dwellings in this neighborhood, whereas the remainder are mainly small apartment buildings, duplexes, and single detached homes. Renters occupy around 85% of the properties in Near Northeast and 15% are occupied by owners. This part of Syracuse has a good variety of unit sizes, ranging from lofts to four or more bedrooms.

The closest grocery store in Near Northeast is generally only a very short walk away.
