This neighborhood features a good amount of greenery as the tree canopy coverage for the majority of streets is fairly good. There are a few green spaces nearby for residents to check out, including High Rock Park and Gateway, which results in them being very easy to reach from the majority of locations within this part of New York. This part of the city is also quiet, as there are generally low levels of noise from traffic - although there are still several louder areas, especially close to the railway line.

In New Dorp, roughly half of the dwellings are single detached homes, while the rest are mainly duplexes and townhouses.
