The majority of locations within the neighborhood have good access to public green spaces, such as Roger Tilbury Memorial Park and Jordan Woods Natural Area, and there are a few of them close by for residents to unwind in. This part of Portland is also great for those who prefer a quiet atmosphere, as there are usually low levels of noise from traffic.

The housing stock of Northwest Heights is composed predominantly of single detached homes and row houses. This part of Portland has quite a good choice of housing size options, ranging from lofts to four or more bedrooms. About 85% of the properties in the neighborhood are occupied by home owners whereas the remainder are rented. The homes in this neighborhood are very new, because most of its dwellings were built in the 1990s, while the majority of the remaining buildings were constructed in the 2000s.
