Westgate is a fairly good neighborhood to buy a house in for those who prefer a slower-paced atmosphere. Most areas in this area are reasonably quiet, as there are generally low levels of noise from traffic. Finally, although this part of Baltimore is not home to any green spaces, parks are very well-spread out in nearby neighborhoods, making it easy to get to them.

Townhouses are the predominant housing type, representing roughly 40% of the dwellings in Westgate, whereas the remainder are mainly large apartment buildings and single detached homes. A majority of the housing growth in this neighborhood took place pre-1960. This area also has a good choice of unit sizes; homes range from lofts to four or more bedrooms. The closest grocery store in Westgate is usually only a rather short walk away. There are also a limited number of choices for those who cherish nearby restaurants. When it comes to education, it is a short walk to access both primary and secondary schools from most homes for sale in Westgate.

Even though Westgate is home to a good bicycling infrastructure, this part of the city is not especially appropriate for cycling as there is a significant amount of slopes. This part of Baltimore is very car friendly. Parking is generally easy, and it is a rather short car ride to the closest highway from anywhere in Westgate. On the other hand, the public transit system in this part of Baltimore is fairly poor. Nevertheless, there are a few bus lines crossing the neighborhood, and bus stops are typically nearby.
